Home Care Regimen for Mature Skin

We have a great deal of clients at The Med Spa that fall into the category of Mature Skin.  These clients come to see me because they want to improve some aspect of their skin or maintain the quality of their skin.  With all of my new clients I like to start off with a free skin care consultation.  When I meet with a new client during the consultation I will take pictures with the VISIA camera.  This amazing tool helps us see beyond the surface of the skin to help detect areas of sun damage, subsurface skin conditions, and separates the unique color signatures of red and brown skin components to help visualize conditions like spider veins, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and acne. It truly is amazing what this camera can show us and is revolutionary in helping me put together a skin care plan that works best for the client.

Once I know what skin issues we need to address, if they are interested in doing treatments, I will find out how aggressive someone wants to be when addressing concerns. The least aggressive treatment we offer at The Med Spa that is gentle but is still effective is the Hydrafacial. The more aggressive treatments we offer include Microneedling, BBL, and then the Halo Laser.  Treatments are great to help see a change in your skin, but the most important thing you can do is home care!  Home care is about 70% of how you maintain your skin and keep it looking great. So I want to focus on what you should be doing for your mature skin at home. There are two approaches to home care and I like to know what type of person you are and what you are committed to doing on a daily basis.

The first type is the simplistic client.  They want to have only a few steps in their daily regimen.  I’ll break down what I recommend for this type of client:

  • Cleanse: morning and night I recommend the Jan Marini Bioglycolic or Jan Marini C-Esta cleansing gel
  • Moisturize: I recommend Jan Marini Transformation Lotion or Neocutis Biocream
  • Protect:  I recommend Jan Marini 30 SPF or Revision Intellishade

The second type of approach is for my product junkies or the client who is willing to do a few more steps in their daily routine. For these types of clients I always recommend starting with the Jan Marini Skin Care Management System as their everyday regimen, which has 5 steps in the system.  Here is what the Skin Care Management System by Jan Marini includes:

Step 1 – Cleanse a.m and p.m
Bioglycolic Face Cleanser: this cleanser encourages soft, smooth, and more refined skin texture.

Step 2 – Rejuvenate a.m and p.m
C-Esta Face Serum: vitamin C and DMAE improve the appearance of wrinkles and skin firmness, and also creates a lifted, radiant look.

Step 3 – Resurface a.m and p.m
Bioglycolic Bioclear Lotion: dynamic ingredients rejuvenate the skin, target textural concerns brightening the skin and provide multifaceted resurfacing benefits.

Step 4 – Hydrate a.m and p.m
Transformation Face Cream: versatile solution that targets a variety of skin concerns by repairing damage, increasing hydration, guarding against inflammation, and greatly enhancing the overall skin rejuvenation.

Step 5 – Protect a.m only
Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 33: broad-spectrum UV protection from the sun’s harmful ray’s, the microscopic sponge encapsulation system provides a silky surface that does not feel heavy or oily.

Additional Step 6 – Depending on your skin care concerns I would also recommend doing a booster on top of the Skin Care Management System. Depending on what you’re looking for, some of my favorite options for mature skin include:

  • Jan Marini Luminate: a Retinol that will brighten, lighten, and rejuvenate the skin.
  • Jan Marini Regeneration Booster: slows the skin cell from aging and helps the overall quality of the skin
  • Revision Nectifirm: helps to tighten and resurface the neck and decollage

The consultation is the time to work together as a team to determine where you fall on the skin care regimen scale (minimalist vs. maximalist). The good news is they are all customizable and it can be a really fun process and one that will make your skin look wonderful and more youthful!
