Skin Exfoliation: Where to Begin?
- Posted on: Jan 9 2020
Skin exfoliation has long been misunderstood in the skincare world and our team wants to help set the record straight. While you may be knowledgeable in some areas of skincare, the specifics of exfoliation may not be fully understood. So, what is it? Exfoliation helps keep your pores from becoming clogged, which can lead to acne, blackheads and other skin issues.
Two Types of Exfoliants
Both chemical and physical exfoliants provide different benefits. If you have sensitive skin, chemical exfoliants are typically the better choice, as the process involves dissolving the connection between the skin cells and what’s trapped inside of them. The physical exfoliation process works by manually removing dead cells and toxins from your skin.
When it comes to the actual process of physical exfoliating, don’t scrub too hard. Instead, let the product do the hard work for you. Make sure to get your face wet beforehand, take some product and gently massage it into your face. Rinse when you’re done and pat dry with a clean towel.
How Often Should You Exfoliate?
The answer to this depends on your skin type. If you have normal skin, you can exfoliate 2-3 times per week and not cause too much irritation. If your skin is more prone to developing dryness or irritation, you can opt to exfoliate 1-2 times per week.
Benefits of exfoliating include cleaning pores, evening your skin tone, boosting circulation, encouraging new, healthy skin cells to develop and clearing acne, just to name a few!
